About Me

David Stringer

Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex

I think I must have started drawing and painting when I was about five, more than seventy years ago. I’ve worked at the Lancing Carriage Works, made reproduction furniture, carpenter for the local council, a week on a building site, seven years at the local parks department, including attending Brinsbury college, forty years self-employed landscape gardener, carpenter, painter and decorator, then as a picture framer, now retired, a year ago.

In all that time, I never stopped drawing and painting. I have had experience of many types of artwork, including model making, objects in box frames, calligraphy, lino printing, lead and glass painting, etc. Also had quite a few exhibitions over the years, in many places in Sussex. My main passion is Japanese art, particularly Ukiyo-e woodblock pictures of the Edo period. I think a lot of my art has a definite Oriental feel to it. After spending three weeks in Japan, in 2017, I’m even more inspired. I hope you enjoy my artwork, of which I have a vast collection! Thank you.
